Ongoing Call for Entries
Submit items & videos to the Crappy Magic Store & Experience throughout 2019 !
Send video entries by Saturday, February 23rd to be considered for our March 2nd Crappy Magic Store grand opening at Nashville's Packing Plant during the Art Crawl.
But you don't have to hurry. Submit entries throughout 2019 to be considered for rotating display Crappy Magic Store and Experience events.
Each piece we show in the Crappy Magic Store & Experience consists of an ITEM that is paired with a VIDEO. Viewers take an ITEM over to a computer KIOSK, where they scan the ITEM to see its VIDEO. Items are for sale along with their videos – Crappy Magic will work to make sales on your behalf in exchange for a commission on sales.
You can reach out to david@crappymagic.com with questions, including to pitch an idea you are unsure about. We especially recommend pitching any idea that will require significant investment of your time or resources. All entries, even those discussed in-progress, are submitted with the understanding that they may or may not be selected for display and sale, and that Crappy Magic displays all selected works at its discretion in our Store and Experience events.
ITEM REQUIREMENTS
Most ITEMS are just found objects – either manufactured or natural – though some contributors have made creative alterations to their objects. When professional artists participate in the Crappy Magic Experience, they often submit ITEMS and VIDEOS that are distinct in some way from their primary body of work.
The ITEM needs to be something durable that viewers can pick up and interact with. This is of the utmost importance in terms of our being able to display your item. It should not be fragile or possess any sharp edges.
Most people provide their own items for the show. Another option is to visit the Crappy Magic Store or Experience while we have a bin sale going on. The bins are full of fun items that would work well for use in Crappy Magic video/item submissions.
VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
The VIDEO that you make with your ITEM is where you can really get creative. The whole idea of The Crappy Magic Experience is that we can sell an object as a work of art BECAUSE the video makes it interesting. The collector purchases the ITEM and also gets a copy of the VIDEO, and they get to brag that they’re supporting your creative endeavors as well as the Crappy Magic Experience.
Video submissions are made via Google Drive or Dropbox to david@crappymagic.com
Along with your video submission, please also email me with this information:
All of the above information you provide will appear on the Crappy Magic Kiosk when a viewer scans your item at the show.

- Videos can be no more than 5 minutes long.
- The video must show the actual item that is associated with it. It can show the item just part of the time, but we have to see the item in the video at some point.
- Please do not use video or audio content you do not have the rights to use. It’s preferred that you generate original content for your submission.
- It’s totally cool to use a cell phone camera for your video! But please, if possible, film in landscape (horizontal) format.
- Please submit videos as MP4 or MOV files.
Video submissions are made via Google Drive or Dropbox to david@crappymagic.com
